PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

Humans have always strived to be many steps ahead of God but every attempt to be either God or greater than Him have met with absolute destruction of man’s plans. And sometimes, and for the lack of knowledge, man betrays God to be what he already is, or seeks to have what he already has.
In the Garden of Eden, Adam was already like God because he was created in the image and the likeness of God. But the serpent convinced him otherwise. The outcome, he was driving out of his heaven on earth-luxurious home God provided.
At Shinar, the people decided to build a city and a tower that reached heaven to make a name for themselves and to stay together. They have already made a name for themselves because these were the people who survived the great flood. The whole earth was their possession because that was God's covenant with Noah. “Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands.” (Gen. 9:1-2 NIV) The people were adequately provided for and secured. Their ambition to build a city and a tower "reaching to the heavens" reflects OPEN DEFIANCE of God's command to fill the earth [Genesis 1:28]. Driven by PRIDE and the desire to "make a name" for themselves, they sought SELF-RELIANCE rather than dependence on the Creator [Genesis 11:4]. At Shinar, the people spoke one language. Then, God came down and turned their plans on its head. There was confusion instead of clarity. Was this God’s plan for the people? Absolutely not. It will take some thousands of years to correct this anomaly.
What did God want for the people? God wanted unity; the people were already united. God wanted one language; they were already speaking one language.. God wanted to give the people a name; the people were already special people. God wanted the people to live in His presence - heaven came down; they already had His attention. “What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?" (Psa. 8:4 KJV) So, why the attempt to build a tower? Why seek other gods?
When we do things in our own power and wisdom, it is pride based and God crushes our intentions until we learn obedience by humility. Are you building a tower of Babel? Are you fasting and praying for what you already have but can’t figure it out? (To be contd)
