UNTIL YOU BREAK HIS YOKE!
“By your sword you shall live, And you shall serve your brother; And it shall come to pass, when you become restless, That you shall break his yoke from your neck.” (Gen. 27:40 NKJV) This verse of the Bible was part of the blessing of Isaac to his first son, Esau. Four things noticeable: 1) By your sword you shall live – to live by one’s will/power; 2) You shall serve your brother – slavery; 3) When you become restless – we you cannot take it any more; 4) You will break his yoke – obtain freedom. So what is the yoke? I am convinced that YOKE is FEAR. Either you make yourself a terror or you are managed by fear daily – whichever way, you are ruled by fear.
Recall that Jacob stole his brother’s blessing – he lived in fear of what Esau might do to him. Esau was so angry that he vowed to kill Jacob – he became fear. Both of them suffered from fear.
Fear was introduced to man in the Garden of Eden by the serpent, the immediate effect that made Adam and Eve go into hiding. Here is the irony; Adam was charged with naming all the animals in the garden and whatever he called them became permanent. God put Adam in charge of all his creations to rule over them including the serpent. How did Adam lose control? How did the serpent turn the table? How did his decision spill over to Esau and the rest of mankind. Why are we ruled by fear introduced by something within our control?
The serpent was under their authority (Adam had more knowledge) but took the lesser knowledge of the serpent anyway and it turned to be their worst nightmare.
Believers should have superior knowledge of God through His Word, yet, we live in constant fear. We allow negative imaginations destroy us by pushing us into deadly sins. We allow the Word of God and His promises to fade into the background while we convincingly hold on to lies. Or like Eve, we are too lazy or too busy to digest the word and to turn it into our shield, and amour!
The Satan, who came in the form of the serpent, and whom you fear, was made lower than you and I the moment God said; “Let us make man in our own image.” And now he manipulates you?! Thank God for Jesus who is ready to exchange our fear for faith.
THE WORD: “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (Mat.11.28-30.NLT)
