PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT
June 2nd, 2026.
The reversal of the confusion at the tower of Babel happened on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2). Recall that the whole world spoke one language before man’s determination to overthrow God. Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” (Gen. 11:4 NIV) This was the rebellion and the reason for it. Then the Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” (Gen. 11:6-7 NIV) The issue was not the one language. It wasn’t the unity. It wasn’t about reaching heaven. It was about doing them without God - like reconstructing what God already constructed - it is pure rebellion and betrayal. Betrayal because God gave mankind everything and mankind decided to use what God gave against Him.
On the Day of Pentecost: “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:2-4 NIV)
In both incidents, God came down to see what the people built. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came down. The people ended with divided tongues at the tower. At Pentecost, the people started with divided tongues. Whereas at the tower, the people did not understand themselves; at Pentecost, all the nations that were gathered heard and understood what was spoken - from confusion to clarity; rebellion to obedience; defiance to surrender; disunity to unity. The people are back to where and what God determined, not as man determined.
Why can’t we see what God already did for us? Because of unbelief. When Jesus said “it is finished”, it was. We have all we need but only accessible through faith. We have to believe before we receive it, not the other way round. Do you believe? Is your faith strong to match your request? Do you really trust Him? Do you obey God’s instructions?
The problems created at the tower of Babel were resolved in Jesus Christ at Pentecost.
THE WORD: "Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails." (Prov. 19:21 NIV)
