ABUNDANT LIFE
Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I AM THE DOOR of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I AM THE DOOR. If anyone enters by Me, he WILL BE SAVED, and will go in and out AND FIND PASTURE.” (John 10:7-9 NKJV) This is a bold and profound statement that goes beyond superficial, everyday conversation to reveal a fundamental truth or a significant, to provoke deep insight into the person of Jesus Christ and His mission. Twice in the three short verses of John 10:7-9, He says I AM THE DOOR – enter through ME, be SAVED and find PASTURE (Psalms 23; 1; 121; Isa. 49:10; Jer. 31:9) So, what is abundant life?
First, abundance is spiritual abundance, not material. In fact, God is not overly concerned with the physical circumstances of our lives. He assures us that we need not worry about what we will eat or wear (Matthew 6:25-32; Philippians 4:19) because He already guarantees to meet our daily needs. Afterall, a raven was sent to feed Elijah. Abundant life is eternal life, a life that begins the moment we come to Christ and receive Him as Savior, and goes on throughout all eternity. The biblical definition of life — specifically eternal life — is provided by Jesus Himself: “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3) Abundant life is inclusive of material prosperity. Afterall, meeting daily needs, and throwing in peace of mind, and assurance of a future hope are great wealth (Gal. 5:22-23).
The only legalized door to abundant life is Jesus Christ. Compare this to the thieves and robbers and why the sheep did not hear them. “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10 NKJV) One who comes to steal is fleeting while Jesus is solid, grounded, and eternal. The thief is about destruction; Jesus is about building and growing. The thief is a liar; Jesus is the truth. Abundant life is 1 Cor. 2:9; “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him— (NIV) and Ephesians 3:20; "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us," (NIV)
THE WORD: “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers." (3 John 1.2.NKJV)
