GOD LOVES A GRATEFUL HEART - KBA Devotional

Why does God love a grateful heart?

  1. Because God commands it. Doing so is obedience and God loves obedience. "In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." (1 Thes. 5:18) "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." (Col.3:17)

  2. Because such a heart remembers and acknowledges that God already made provisions for all his needs. Hence - "Before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear". (Isa. 65:24) "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Rom. 5:8)

  3. A grateful heart creates a sacred space that invites God's presence. 

  4. It demonstrates deep trust - a feeling of security and hope. And if you can thank Him during difficult or uncertain times—shows unwavering faith that He is ultimately working things out for our good. 

  5. A grateful heart invites more blessings, more favour because it encourages the giver.

  6. Jesus teaches us to always give thanks. He demonstrated this in the Lord’s prayer and before the miracle of five loaves of bread to feed five thousand people and more

  7. Expressing thanks honors God's character and recognizes His constant, steadfast love. “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. (Ps. 118:1) “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.” (Ps. 100:1-3) 


What if I am unable to appreciate God as I ought?

It only shows that your level of trust in God is still shaky. You probably allow fear to rule your heart more than gratitude. You want a quick fix. You may also not know how to be grateful for seemingly little things. Remember two things:  God’s plan for you is always good and without Him, you can do nothing - you can’t even wake up in the morning. (Jer. 29:11 & John 15:5)


A heart of contentment is essential for a grateful heart.


THE WORD: “ Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.  And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” (Heb. 13:15-16 NIV)
