I AM A LIVING MIRACLE!!! – Evangelism

Have you ever been told that you have only 24 hours to live? Well, that is what the doctors said about me when I fell seriously sick with no visible cause. But by God's Grace the words of our Lord Jesus Christ in John 11v 4 came through for me: "This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby."

Now let me tell you how I turned 24 hours into thousands of hours since 1st April 2015  and still counting. I was feeling out of sorts and drove my car with my husband (sitting next to me) to the Accident & Emergency dept of my local hospital. I collapsed on entering the hospital. Before the end of the day, I went into a coma, had multiple organ failure and I was placed on a life support machine in Intensive Care. I stopped responding to treatment several times over the next 4 months and my 2 legs were amputated in order to keep me alive. Each time, the doctors gave up on me, Jehovah Rapha brought me back to life again and again.

I was then discharged to a private ward where I began to feel excruciating pains from my stumps. I ‘decided’ that it was time to go Home so I will no longer be in pain. I requested to have 7 of my diseased fingers amputated with the hope that I will not come round after the operation. But I did because my time was not yet up. At that point, I realized that God had spared my life yet again for a purpose which is for me to testify to His goodness and grace now that He gave me another chance to live.

That I am alive today is indeed a miracle. Jesus Christ spared my life, healed me and made me stronger everyday and so I will like to encourage you, the reader, to accept Him into your life and put your faith and trust in God Almighty. He will come through for you as He did for me, whatever your circumstance.

Three weeks into my seven weeks coma, the doctors discovered that I had sepsis of unknown cause! I am indeed a living miracle having  survived sepsis  and I will like to share some pertinent information with you about this most dreaded and debilitating ailment known as sepsis.

WHAT IS SEPSIS?

Sepsis is a potentially life-threatening condition that arises when the body’s response to infection causes injury to its own tissues and organs. This can reduce the blood supply to vital organs such as the brain, heart and kidneys. Without quick treatment, sepsis can lead to multiple organ failure and death.

The problem is that sepsis is hard to diagnose as the case was with me. I had multiple organ failure and septic shock only a few hours after hospital admission. However, if someone is presenting with any of the following symptoms, they must seek urgent medical assistance:

SYMPTOMS IN ADULTS

Slurred speech or confusion

Extreme shivering or muscle pain;

Passing no urine in a day;

Severe breathlessness;

It feels like you are going to die;

Skin is mottled or discoloured.

SYMPTOMS IN CHILDREN

Breathing very fast;

Has a ‘fit’ or convulsion;

Looks mottled or pale;

Has a rash that does not fade when you press it;

Is very lethargic or difficult to wake;

Feels abnormally cold to touch.

This child might have sepsis so please contact your doctor immediately and ask- Could it be sepsis?

Also, any child under 5 who

Is not feeding

Is vomiting repeatedly

Hasn’t had a wee or wet nappy for 12 hours

MIGHT HAVE SEPSIS. So, please seek medical assistance without delay.

EVERY 3 SECONDS, SOMEONE IN THE WORLD DIES OF SEPSIS.

 SEPSIS CLAIMS 11 MILLION LIVES A YEAR.

Yet, for many patients, with early diagnosis it is easily treatable.

THE MEDICAL SOLUTION IS COMPARATIVELY EASY

Here it is:

If caught within the first hour, a junior healthcare professional using just basic healthcare equipment can double a patient’s chances of survival. The requirements are high-flow oxygen, broad spectrum antibiotics and intravenous fluids.

THE WAY FORWARD

We need to end preventable deaths from sepsis and improve outcomes for sepsis survivors. It is obvious that early diagnosis and treatment across Nigeria can save many, many lives.

 People affected by sepsis need to be supported.

There is a need for the education and training of healthcare professionals so they can easily identify sepsis when presented.

Instigating political change that will encourage government support in healthcare

And last but not the least- raising awareness of the public which is the purpose of this tract.

BUT THE REAL SOLUTION IS COMMUNICATION

There is a need for vastly improved communication regarding sepsis. When sepsis leads to death or does lasting damage, it’s too often because the people involved weren’t aware of the condition or how dangerous it is.

Our country needs to invest in resources to tell the public and healthcare community about sepsis. If everyone just asked: COULD IT BE SEPSIS? at an earlier stage, treatment can be delivered and lives can be saved. I presently shout it out from the roof tops so please pass this tract round to as many people as you can.

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest (Mat. 11:28)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

Pray the sinner’s prayer: Lord Jesus, I have sinned in many ways. Have mercy upon me and forgive me. I come to you today for Your saving Grace. I accept You Lord as my Lord and personal Saviour. I surrender all to You. Thank You Lord. Amen
