It is written: “For many are called, but few are chosen.” (Mat.22.14.NLT)
In the parable of the Wedding Feast, (Matthew 22:1-14), there are three different responses to the invitation of the king.1. Those who turned down the invitation outright. And, they have their reasons. These people were supposed to be the honoured guests and the initial reason for the banquet. True to this parable is the fact that when some of us first received Jesus Christ as Lord, our first target of converts were our immediate and extended families but they rebuffed the invitation (a prophet without honour.... The Jews were the primary reason for the wedding banquet. Their rejection gave birth to the open door invitation to whosoever is willing.
2. Those who honoured the invitation (the good, the bad and the ugly) and the banquet Hall was filled with guests. The churches are filled with many people who have honoured the invitation.
3. Those who honoured the invitation but have no Wedding clothes. They have the form of godliness but denied its power (2 Tim. 3:5). The wedding garment is the righteousness of Christ Jesus through His shed blood.
There are people of repute in the church like the Pharisees, who think that their constant presence, their financial, moral, and developmental contributions are enough to make heaven. They call Jesus Lord but are unwilling to surrender all to Him.
There are those who follow just for what they can get, food, connections, improve social status.
Some started well but found that following Jesus requires more commitment, dedication, and patience, so they abandoned the union. (John 6:66-71) Wealth becomes obstacle (Matthew 19:16-22). Many want heaven but not God, forgiveness but not repentance, blessings but not obedience. You have received the call; but are you chosen? Are your garment spotless, are they white as snow? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
It is important that we all review our standing in Christ Jesus.
There is a difference between called and chosen. No requirement needed for the call. Come as you are. To be a chosen however, you have to surrender ALL to Jesus Christ.
