"SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD!" - Devotional

An insight into SOLOMON'S PRAYER

First, "Solomon went up to the bronze altar before the Lord in the tent of meeting and offered a thousand burnt offerings on it." (2 Chro.1:6 NIV)
This was an unprecedented offerings to God. He actually lavished God with praise and thanksgiving. And of course, why not? He was one of many of his father's, king David, sons. He was not the oldest; but he received favour. Solomon knew this and he went all out to show his appreciation to God.

Second, "That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” (2 Chro. 1:7 NIV). God does not take anything for granted. He answers us according to the status of our hearts. God extended ALL OF HIS KINGDOM TO SOLOMON. [Imagine you in his shoes,  what would you have asked for?] God was delighted with Solomon. Have you done anything to delight God?

Third, "Solomon answered God, “You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place.......Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?”
(2 Chro.1.8-10.NIV). Hmmm! GOD IS WISDOM! Solomon just asked for God, Himself!

Fourth, God said to Solomon, “Since this is your heart’s desire and you HAVE NOT ASKED FOR WEALTH, POSSESSIONS or HONOR, nor for the DEATH of your ENEMIES, and since you have not asked for a LONG LIFE but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you (all other things shall be added Mat. 6:33)) wealth, possessions and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have.”
(2 Chro.1.11-12.NIV).

It is obvious in this brief conversation that whoever has God has everything. God knows our needs and He already provided them in abundance but HE NEEDS US TO NEED HIM NOT HIS GIFTS.
Compare your prayer life to that of Solomon - (spot the difference?) May we not continue to ask amiss.

WORD: "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." (Mat.6.33.NIV)
