PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.
May 15th, 2025THE CONSEQUENCES OF FEAR OVER FAITH.
Yesterday, we saw how God gave ten of the twelve tribes of Israel to Jeroboam. He never asked for it. He was not one of David's descendants. He was simply a widow's son, a servant of Solomon, a mighty man of valor, whom God decided to favour because of Solomon's Unfaithfulness (1 Kings 11:26-40). It was for this reason that Solomon tried to kill him, so, he fled to Egypt.
Jeroboam, indeed became king just as God said through the prophet Ahijah. No sooner that he became the king, he forgot God and then turned to seek counsel from people. He turned the people's hearts away from God to the worship of idols.
Why didn't he consult the God that gave him the position when he was afraid? Why did king Saul, who went looking for his father's donkey but found favour with God and was anointed king over Israel, abandoned God to seek medium? Why did Gideon in similar circumstance sort God? Why did Abraham returned God's favour - Isaac - to Him when He requested? Why was Hannah able to release Samuel back to God? Why did the Shunammite woman, who did not ask for a son but Elisha prayed for one anyway, returned the dead child back to God? Why did Jesus say, "give unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto God what is God's (Mat. 22:21)?
The difference is fear over faith or faith over fear. When our roots in the knowledge of God is not deep enough, fear replaces faith.
God exalted Jeroboam but he fell. "Because of this, I am going to bring disaster on the house of Jeroboam. I will cut off from Jeroboam every last male in Israel—slave or free. I will burn up the house of Jeroboam as one burns dung, until it is all gone. Dogs will eat those belonging to Jeroboam who die in the city, and the birds will feed on those who die in the country. The Lord has spoken!’ (1 Ki.14.10-11.NIV)
Because God is so faithful, He demands that we are faithful to Him as well. He is not a God of 'when it is convenient'. God is serious business. Let us be willing and ready to return whatever He committed to us back to Him (if need be) or seek His direction.
