FORGIVENESS AND RECONCILIATION.
There is confusion in many hearts regarding forgiveness and reconciliation. Forgiveness is different from reconciliation. Forgiveness is a command while reconciliation is a choice. A choice whether you want to be a victim or a victor. Many carry the heavy burden that forgiving someone means everything must go back to how it use to be. That if you truly let go of the hurt you must also return to the same relationship as it was as if nothing happened. This is not only unbiblical, it is damaging. Reconciliation can only happen if both parties are moving in the same direction. "Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?" (Amo.3.3.NIV)
FORGIVENESS
"For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." (Mat.6.14-15.NIV). Forgiveness teaches giving and receiving knowing that we had a broken relationship with God too and Jesus Christ provided the means of forgiveness based on repentance with the Father. Forgiveness also frees us from anger, bitterness, hatred, that can destroy us internally and deny us peace, love, and joy. We are encouraged to "rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good." (1 Pet.2.1-3.NIV). To forgive is therefore, more for my own good than for the good of the other person/s.
RECONCILIATION.
Before Adam fell, He had a very close relationship with God. He was the extension of God. He had all of creations at his disposal. But when he fell, God immediately cut him off from all of His provisions and even drove him from the Garden of Eden. God then dealt with Adam at arms length.
For their relationship to be REBUILT requires blood atonement, genuine repentance before reconciliation. Jesus Christ provided all but only accessible by choice - 'if you believe.' Reconciliation requires boundary. (To be contd)
