PERFORMANCE AND AUTHENTICITY CHRISTIANS (2) - Devotional

PERFORMANCE AND AUTHENTICITY CHRISTIANS (2).
(Extract from WATCHMAN Nee teachings)
The Christian life is not difficult but impossible in our own strength; but perfectly natural when we allow Christ to live through us. How?

1.) Acknowledge our complete inability.
As long as we think we can live the Christian life through our own effort, we will remain trapped in a cycle of performance.

2.) We need to understand the finished work of Christ on the Cross.
On the cross, our old man/self was crucified with Christ. "We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin."
(Rom.6.6.NLT)

3.) We need to learn to live by faith.
Accept the truth as it is written even if we do not feel like it. Many of Christians live in a constant state of condemnation because they judge their spiritual condition by their feelings (Am I doing enough?) but God judges us according to our position in Christ which is unchangeable.

4.) We need to understand the principle of substitution.
The Christian life is not about improving our old nature but about replacing it with the life of Christ. It is not about behaving like Jesus but allowing Jesus to express Himself through us.

5.) We need to let go of the fear of judgement.
One of the main reasons we maintain a religious facade is the fear of what others may think if they see who we really are. Are we living for the approval of God or man? "Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant."
(Gal.1.10.NLT)

An excessive concern for others opinion is a clear indicator that we are still living in PERFORMANCE not in AUTHENTICITY. God is not looking for perfect men and women but for BROKEN vessels through which His perfection may shine.

The secret of the Christian life is not DOING but RECEIVING. Not IMITATING but ABIDING. Not STRIVING but SURRENDERING. The result of this is FREEDOM.

THE WORD: And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John.8.32.NLT)
