YOU CAN NEVER CHANGE WHAT YOU CANNOT CONFRONT.
Change does not come easily to man. Repetition and familiar terrain is more convenient. Anything that challenges the human pride is resisted no matter the cost. This is why confession of sin and repentance of same is difficult because it challenges our pride, making us smaller than we genuinely believe. So, we rather avoid confronting sin, blame others, and suffer in silence.
Change doesn't come easily because of fear. Fear of rejection, fear of the outcome, fear of failure, fear of people's opinion, all speculations because the end result of our actions is not known.
Shame also holds us back from confronting our inadequacies. A marriage that has lost all the semblance of marriage. A child that should be taken to the police station. A job that has lost its flavour. A secret affair that even the conscience is screaming at. Greed blinding right doing.
Confronting whatever is eating you up, is the first step to being honest with yourself. "Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy."

When God spoke to Cain: “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” (Gen.4.6-7.NIV) Cain shielded his pride to confronting the real issue and hence, he became the first murderer in human history. On the contrary, when Prophet Nathan revealed David's sin to him, he bowed his head and admitted his guilt. He became the man after God's heart. When Hagar was running away from Sarai, the angel of the Lord asked her: “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” “I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered." (Gen.16.8.NIV). She answered truthfully. She confessed and by so doing, confronted her situation. She would later say, “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.” (Gen.16.13.NIV)
Can we really hide from God? The inability to confront sin is eternal death.
THE WORD: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us." (1 John.1.9-10.NIV)
