MANASSEH AND EPHRAIM (Gen. 41:51&52)
Manasseh and Ephraim were the sons of Joseph. Joseph was the eleventh son of Jacob. He was the son with the coat of many colours. The coat signified the father's love, the son that cannot be hidden and destined for greatness. This significance seemed far from his truth when he was sold by his brothers as a slave to the Ishmaelites and was taken to Egypt.
Joseph lost his coat of many colours meaning that he lost the fatherly love, fatherly protection and care and any possibility of greatness. His ordeal did not stop at that for he was sold to Potiphar who made him the manager of his estate but whose wife had a different agenda for him. When her lust for him failed, she lied against him and Joseph was thrown into prison maybe a life sentence. But God has other plans for him. Joseph was miraculously invited by Pharaoh to interpret dream - his God given talent - and this was where and when the tide turned in his favour. He was given a wife and they had two sons. The first son was called Manasseh. "Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh and said, “It is because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household.” (Gen.41.51.NIV). The significance of this is, Joseph refused to live in the past. He saw, tasted, and survived by grace in the love of God.
Majority of people, irrespective of what the Lord accomplished in their lives, have built walls of hatred, regrets, anger, bitterness and revenge that are holding them down. They constantly remind themselves of the past which in a way prevents them from moving forward. Why will you hold on to the past especially when God is already on your case? Are you bigger than God?
Joseph moved forward, left his past where it belonged and confirmed this when he told his brothers; what you meant for evil God turned to good (Gen. 50:19-20). The totality of his perception gave him a second son and he called him Ephraim. "The second son he named Ephraim and said, “It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering.” (Gen.41.52.NIV) Joseph prospered in the land of his sufferings in the presence of his many enemies. He didn't have to run to other nations to prosper. Isaac stayed in the land where he was afflicted and prospered (Gen. 26)
God is able to prosper you in the land of your suffering if only you will let go and forgive your past.
THE WORD: “But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." (Gen.50.19-20.NIV)
