THE LOST COIN.
In the Book of Luke 15:3-32, our Lord told three similar but different parables to explain and to answer the accusation of the Pharisees concerning His mission/ministry. "..... the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” (Luk.15.2.NIV). In the parables, Jesus Christ told of how people can be lost and heaven's joy when they are found or when they returned home.
First, the sheep that strayed from the pen from among ninety-nine others because it either stopped listening to the Shepherd's voice, or just didn't hear the Shepherd's instruction (distracted), and it took a wrong turn. Or it simply saw an animal that looked like it, a sheep, but who wasn't a sheep. How often have we strayed away believing in the wrong preaching, wrong influence that looks innocent?
But the parable of the lost coin was different because the coin was lost in the house. The coin was not taken out. It was supposed to be where the other nine were kept. “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? [9] And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin." (Luk.15.8-9.NIV)
The coin was lost in the house. Are all the members of your household saved? The woman searched carefully until she finds it! - the black sheep in the family. People who attend the church regularly can be lost within the church. After all, Joseph and Mary were unaware that Jesus was not travelling with them for a whole day. It took three days of diligent searching to find Him in the temple. They thought they lost Him (Luke 2:41-50).
There are lost people in the church who listen regularly to sermons but never putting them into action. "You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?" (1 Cor.3.3.NIV).
The good news is, if we search diligently, they can still be found. While we are looking to win souls from the Gentiles, we need to look in the house too for lost souls. Paul was preaching and a man slept and fell from the window three floors down and died - lost in an instant but was found.
THE WORD: “Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “He’s alive!” (Act.20.10.NIV)
