OLD AGE IS A BLESSING AND A REWARD.
When we think of old age, what we think, see, or feel are wrinkles, gray hair, slow steps, and a body that doesn't cooperate the way it use to. Our culture doesn't help much either as it has trained us to see those things as loss as if we should run away from it. The slow processing of words and slower remembering of things irritate the younger generations (there is no comparison with the speed they process things) and they see burden and not God's blessing. They see waste not wisdom. They do not see that some people are granted the reward of old age to pass on the touch to tell generations yet unborn the praises of the Lord, His strength and His wonderful works. (Psa. 78:3-8; 71:18)
The Bible tells a different story about the aged than culture is willing to tell. Old age is God’s greatest blessing wrapped in wisdom, seasoned with experience and crown with His promises. "With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” (Psa.91.16.NIV). "Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness." (Prov.16.31.NIV). "Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding,........She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed. (Prov.3.13,15-18.NIV)
●Aging is a testament of God’s faithfulness. It is not about what is lost but all that God has sustained throughout the years past. His wonderful deeds and heartbreaking testimonies of His Grace.
●Aging is the greatest reward to mankind, the opportunity to know God intimately as well as right wrong deeds of the past - come clean
●God's power shines more in our strength and weakness as reliance is more on God than self. Youthful energy gone. God becomes the main pillar when the two legs are protesting.
●Teacher to the next generations. Lois and Eunice, Anna - (2 Tim. 1:5; Luke 2:36-38)
●Longevity - gifts and blessing. Bearing fruit in old age (Psa 92:14) in relationship with Exodus 20:12.
●Looking up to Jesus. Old people can look forward to eternal journey with great hope and joy.
THE WORD: “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you." (Isa.46.4.NIV)
