SEEK GOOD AND NOT EVIL. (Amos 5:14)
"Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is." (Amo.5.14.NIV)
Every choice is a vote for the type of life we want to live. Every decision we face is an opportunity to align ourselves with God's heart or drift away from His purpose. Every moment presents us with fundamental choice that determines not just our circumstances but our very destiny. Right now, you have the power to choose life over death, blessing over curse, light over darkness. God has placed before you the most important decision you will ever make, and it is not a one time choice. It is a daily, hourly, moment by moment decision that shapes everything about your existence.
The prophet Amos spoke to a generation that had forgotten this fundamental truth. They had become comfortable with compromise, satisfied with spiritual mediocrity. Content with choosing the easy path instead of the righteous path. But God, in His infinite mercy gave them - and us - a roadmap back to abundant life.
Amos 5:14 is a divine command coupled with an incredible promise. 'Seek good, actively pursue it, hunt for it, make it your mission. Not evil - turn away from it, reject it, refuse to entertain it. That you may live, not just exist, but truly live with purpose, meaning, and divine blessing. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you. The creator of the Universe, the one who holds all power, will align Himself with your life.
Amos spoke to a society that is in every way similar to ours today. A society that has lost its moral compass, where right and wrong have become blurred. Where convenience has replaced conviction, where comfort has replaced character. It is into this moral confusion that God speaks with startling clarity. The solution isn't complex theology or complicated religious formulas. It is beautifully simple: seek good, not evil. Choose righteousness over wickedness. Pursue justice over injustice. Select truth over lies.
It is about actively pursuing God's heart, God's will, God's ways. It means showing mercy to the oppressed, the broken, kindness to the forgotten and walking humbly with God.
THE WORD: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." (Mat.6.33.NIV)
