FAITHFULNESS HAS NO SHELF LIFE.
“Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Mat. 5:48 NIV)
Faithfulness is character, integrity, it stands you out in the crowd. It is reliability and steadfastness. It is being honest and transparent and it is timeless. To be faithful is to be consistent, loyal, to honour your promises, or belief even when it is difficult. It is remaining true to your spouse, friend, or family through thick and thin. It is being diligent at work, a constant and trustworthy employee or employer. It is found in a deep devotion to God, choosing to follow His divine guidance irrespective of the challenges.
The Bible points us often to God’s faithfulness. Over and over we learn that when God says He will do something, He does it even when it seems impossible and it does not matter how long it takes. This is why we have all come to rely on Him that what He says he will do, He will do - that is why He is called Jehovah. If God were unfaithful even once, He would not be God and we will not be able to rest on His promises. We ought to be like Him.
When Nehemiah had to leave Jerusalem to return to Persia, he put Hanani and Hananiah in charge. The reason for his choice of these men was that they were “more faithful and God-fearing . . . than many” (Nehemiah 7:2, ESV). Nehemiah needed men of character whom he could trust. Men who would not take bribes, who were committed to the welfare of the people, and who would uphold the integrity of the office.
We all desire faithfulness from associates; why are we not willing to be faithful in all we do? People who stole money are looking for faithful and trustworthy people to manage it! What irony?!
The scriptures say; “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven? And if you are not faithful with other people’s things, why should you be trusted with things of your own?” (Luke 16:10-12 NLT) There is reward for faithfulness.
THE WORD: “His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord." (Mat.25.23.NKJV)
