TWO TYPES OF INVESTMENTS.
The Bible talks only about two types of investments. Then he told them a story: “A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’ Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods. And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry! But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’ “Yes, A PERSON IS A FOOL TO STORE UP EARTHLY WEALTH BUT NOT HAVE A RICH RELATIOSHIP WITH GOD.” (Luke 12:16-21 NLT) “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” (Mat. 6:19-21 NLT)
Investment, in the biblical context, refers to the allocation of resources, whether time, money, or talents, with the expectation of a future return or benefit. This means that investment is the product of surplus resources and surplus resources can be invested in either material things – things that can be SEEN and evaluated or in human beings which are UNSEEN but done unto God. “I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’’ (Mat. 25:40 NLT)
There are so many rich people around us. Some are seen because we can assess their wealth by the numbers of cars, houses, access to the luxurious life style while others are unseen because they choose to help people. And by doing this, they are actually investing in God. “for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Heb. 11:6b NKJV) Apostle Paul invested in Timothy (2 Tim. 1:3-14) He invested in Onesimus (Philemon 1:8-12) and many others. He left the world a better place. We ought to do the same especially this yuletide. Let us invest in God for heavenly reward.
THE WORD: “And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share (invest) with others." (2 Cor.9.8.NLT)
