PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

“CERTAINLY NOT BE ENOUGH”. (Jh. 6:9b GNT)
“But they will certainly not be enough.” This was what Andrew, the brother of Peter, saw and concluded after his assessment of the crowd of 5000 men (not counting the women and children) to the five loaves of bread and two fish he found with a boy in the crowd. To the naked eyes, five loaves of bread and two fish are certainly not enough to feed that multitude. But we are not to walk by sight but by faith (2 Cor. 5:7). What we see in the physical should not define what God has in store, depending on our standing/relationship with Him. Jesus fed more than 5000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish and about twelve full baskets were gathered from the left over after they have all been fed to satisfaction.
The same scenario played out in the story of the widow of Zarephath. Her reaction when Elijah told her to make cake for him first was – ‘certainly the flour will not be enough for the tree of us’ (1 Kings 17:12,14). Physically looking at the flour, it was not enough indeed but spiritually, they all fed on that same small, insufficient flour for three years because the UNSEEN HAND made it possible. What do you see? Empty jar of oil or a full jar?
Elisha’s servant saw his master’s house surrounded by armed men and he was very afraid. He reported the scene to his master who simply prayed that God should show the UNSEEN to him. And when he saw that those with them were more than those against them, he was dumbfounded (2 kings 6:17). What do you see? Whom are you trusting? Your sight or His promises?
In the early church, after the Pentecost experience, the Lord was ADDING to the disciples daily. “And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:47b NIV) The ADDITION was ongoing even in the face of persecution and by the time you are reading the sixth chapter of Acts, God changed from ADDITION to MULTIPLICATION. “Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists…” (Acts 6:1a NKJV) What are you certain will not be enough? Is it food, money, protection, people to stand in the gap, healing? Look unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of your faith.
THE WORD: “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." (Phil.4.19.NIV)
