"WHERE ARE YOU STAYING?" - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT
Dec. 13th, 2025

“WHERE ARE YOU STAYING?”
Two of John the Baptist disciples who had followed Jesus asked Him the question; “where are you staying”?

John the Baptist had been preaching repentance for a while to the people and had told them about Jesus who will baptize them with the Holy Spirit. Many people listened to John, they believed and were baptized, while many were there as on-lookers and the Jewish leaders sent some priests to ask him who he was. (Note the Three different groups of listeners in the gathering.)

The next day, John the Baptist saw Jesus and he declared; “Look, the Lamb of God!” Two of his disciples were with him when he said this and when they heard him, without any hesitation, they left John and followed Jesus. Jesus sensing that He was followed, turned and asked, “what do you want?” They simply answered, “Rabbi, where are you staying?”

“When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.  Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?” They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?” “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.” (John 1:37-39 NIV)

What made these disciples to follow Jesus immediately?
●Presumably, they must have heard about Him.
●They must have learned about Him through the Law of Moses and from John the Baptist.
●They must have believed.
●They took steps to cement their conviction.
●They invited others to join the team. (John 1:40-51)
Many people today have similar experience but still will not take the only decision worth taking in life - follow Jesus.

There were three different types of people in the gathering.
■Those who listened and took action
■Those who came mainly to watch.
■Those who were still asking questions.
Which are you?

THE WORD: “See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
(Heb.3.12-13.NIV)
