HIDDEN, YET LIFTED UP UPON A ROCK!
“For in the time of trouble
He shall hide me in His pavilion;
In the secret place of His tabernacle
He shall hide me;
He shall set me high upon a rock.” (Psa. 27:5 NKJV)
This verse of the Bible seems to be a paradoxical expression of the utmost protection of God for the believer. Hidden in the secret place of His tabernacle suggests exactly that yet, being lifted up on the rock at the same time suggests visibility to the enemy. It is a daring state or challenge from God daring the enemy to touch His anointed if he/they can! The fact that God builds a hedge of protection around the believer does not mean that he, the believer, cannot be seen by the enemy but it remains to be seen how the enemy will pull down or remove the hedge of God! “Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side?” (Job 1:10 NKJV) “Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.” (Psa. 91:3-4 NKJV). On the other hand, Jesus says: “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Mat. 5:14 NKJV)
The key to unravel this misery is in Psalm 91:4; His “TRUTH” is the real shield and buckler, and the only armour that can lift the believer upon a rock. TRUTH PROTECTS (hides) AND TRUTH REVEALS. When the Truth is on your side, you have nothing to fear. And God will always protect His word; His word is Truth. “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” (John 17:17 NKJV) (Psalm 119:160)
In essence, the combined phrase in Psalm 27:5 describes a state where you experience both intimate, personal refuge (hidden in His pavilion) and unshakeable, elevated security (upon a rock), even while troubles may be raging in the world around you. The entire world has not yet come up with any technology that can kill and bury the TRUTH because, it is impossible to kill. Thus, the enemy CANNOT DESTROY THOSE ON THE SIDE OF TRUTH.
THE WORD: “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." (Heb.4.12.NKJV)
