HE WHO HAS BATHED…
Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.” For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.” (John 13:10-11 NIV)
At the ceremony of the washing of the disciples’ feet, Peter believed that the washing of his feet by Jesus was beneath Jesus, demeaning and a task reserved for the lowest of slave. For those reasons, he refused Jesus to washed his feet until Jesus told him – “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”
“No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.”
Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” (John 13:7-8 NIV)
Peter then allowed Jesus to wash his feet but wanted Jesus to wash more than his feet and to this, Jesus responded; “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.”
Salvation begins with a one-time, sincere confession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord, believing God raised Him from the dead, as described in Romans 10:9-10. “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. (NIV) IT IS A ONE TIME CONFESSION IF DONE SINCERELY. This then translates to your past sins been written off, forgotten, and not to be remembered anymore (Heb. 8:12). But this does not mean you have stopped sinning. The Lord made provision for sins committed after you have been saved. (1 John 1:8-10)
When Jesus told Peter that only his feet needed washing and that the rest of his body was cleaned, He is telling us that we have been washed in the blood of the Lamb, only the stained part needs cleaning. The dust coved feet represent sin and require to be washed off. Your salvation is still undeniable and this is why Jesus always say to those whose sins have been forgiven – “Go and sin no more.” "Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand." (Psa.37.24.NLT)
And when He said, but not all of you are cleaned, He is saying not all have received salvation.
THE WORD: “My dear brothers and sisters, if someone among you wanders away from the truth and is brought back, you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back from wandering will save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins." (James.5.19-20.NLT)
