FOR WHICH OF MY WORKS DO YOU CONDEMN ME? - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

April 3rd, 2026.

During Jesus’ last hours on earth, we see the looming desire of darkness to wear out the light. In other words, the Truth was under attack simply because the world loves lies.

Jesus asked: “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” (John 10:32 NIV)

“Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me?” (John 8:46 NIV)

Then the final straw; Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me.” (Luke 22:52-53 NIV) By this, Jesus saw through their hypocrisy and cowardly act, the use of darkness as cover because the church leaders were more afraid of the people than they were of God.

One thing is obvious so far; that you do not need to have done anything wrong before those in authority or whoever feels he/she has an upper hand over you, accuse you of a crime you did not commit. This also follows a pattern we see in the life of Job. The Accuser of brethren stood against him to an extent that even Job’s supposedly loyal friends accused him of sin.

Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders, “everyday I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me.” This is evidence enough that they knew that Jesus was who He claimed to be. Recall the words of the Man born Blind to this same group of people - “Now that is remarkable! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes. We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will. Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.” (John 9:30-33 NIV)

So, the chief priests, the teachers of the law, the temple guards, the elders, all know the truth but are determined to cover it up because of their selfish ambitions. And for the fulfilment of the prophecies concerning Jesus and this hour (Isaiah 53; Psalm 22). Also, that you do not have to be wrong to be accused of wrongdoing as long as your presence exposes evil acts. God still allows Satan to show his hands even though in futility. And there are times you look the accuser in the eye and tell him/her to take his worst shot. Then you find out that he is powerless.

The arresting party consisted of chief priests, Temple captains, and elders. They used darkness as cover. Beware and be vigilant - some church elders may not be what they appear to be. Many operations in the dead of the night under the cover of beautified clubs, NGOs, philanthropies and more.

THE WORD: “And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.” (Psa. 12:6 NIV)
