THE TEST OF OBEDIENCE. - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

April 18th, 2026.

This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God  and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.  And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.” (1 John 3:19-24 NIV)

What does this mean for us?

  1. It means we have a court room within us in our hearts where the plaintiff is present, the defence agent is present and the judge is present 24/7. The lead actor is our conscience.

  2. You may have enough money to hire the best lawyers in the world to overturn the case in your favour, the fact remains that you received the true judgement long before the public court gavel came down.

  3. If your heart does not condemn you, it means the TRUTH has set you free (John 8:32) even if you are imprisoned for an offence you did not commit.

  4. For the Truth to set you free means you have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and you are keeping His commandment of Love. He is the only way to our freedom.

  5. You have confidence to approach God and ask anything in prayer and you will receive. (Mat 6:33) There is no fear in love (1 John 4:18). You earned the privilege to approach the throne of grace and mercy as an obedient child. “Ask anything in my name……” (John 14:14)

  6. “The one who keeps God’s commands lives in Him, and He in them.” (1 John 3:24) We are back to point no.1, the court room. "Greater is he that is in me" (1 John 4:4) affirming the Holy Spirit/Christ dwelling within a believer. “And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.” (1 John 3:24b)

  7. Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more. (John 8:10-11 NLT)

It all comes down to this

THE WORD: “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (Mat. 6:33 NLT)
