PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

"Greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends." (John 15:3) Sacrificial giving is the most unselfish expression of love. Where can we find it? It is becoming a rare commodity. Sacrificial giving is widely considered the truest measure of love because it requires putting the needs and well-being of someone else above your own comfort, time, or resources. It proves love is an active choice to give without expecting anything in return. It proves that love, often reduced to a feeling, is sacrifice transformed into a tangible action. It involves tangible steps to care for someone else's burdens.


Jesus demonstrated it when He left His luxurious home, came to earth and died for us on the cross two thousand years ago. The fruit of which we are still benefiting from today and which covers for those yet unborn.

Abraham, flesh and blood like you and I, was also willing to sacrifice his only son, Isaac to demonstrate his love for God believing that He, God, will provide a substitute. And he was right because many years later, God provided Jesus for the same reason - love for the world.


Moses was taken out of his comfort zone to lead God’s people. It cost him precious time with his family. Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Peter, John, Paul, all gave up their livelihood, their life as their sacrificial offering. Abel gave his first and his best sheep. Hannah gave her first born son to serve the Giver of life. The Widow of Zarephath gave her last meal to the prophet of God. What are we willing to give?


It's not unusual to hear sayings like, “God won’t give you more than you can handle.” But what do we do when following God’s will is difficult? Or when God leads us to give up something we really want so that we can walk in His will and heed His call?



That is the challenge. What things in our lives do we hold more tightly than cling to God? What are our fears? When we discover these things, then, take them to God in prayer. Let Him help us view everything through His eye. Let His will become our will. His thoughts, our thoughts and willing hearts to obey Him.


THE WORD: "If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell" (Matthew 5:29).
