PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT
Sept. 12th, 2026
“Law was introduced in order to increase wrongdoing; but where sin increased, God's grace increased much more. So then, just as sin ruled by means of death, so also God's grace rules by means of righteousness, leading us to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Rom. 5:20-21 GNT) What shall we say, then? Should we continue to live in sin so that God's grace will increase? Certainly not! We have died to sin—how then can we go on living in it?” (Rom. 6:1-2 GNT)
It was reported to Paul that in Corinth, one of their members was sleeping with his stepmother. So, Paul instructed the church: “you are to hand this man over to Satan for his body to be destroyed, so that his spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord.” (1 Cor. 5:5 GNT) What does this mean given that we all renounced Satan to be secured in Jesus? Well, it was that the offender’s ‘body be destroyed.’ Why? Because the people took pride in sinning believing that Grace will shield them, hence Romans 6:1-2. Grace will not rescue us from willful/deliberate sin. For it is like crucifying Jesus again. Paul’s instruction is removal of the problem before it infects the whole congregation. “It is not right for you to be proud! You know the saying, “A little bit of yeast makes the whole batch of dough rise.” You must remove the old yeast of sin so that you will be entirely pure. Then you will be like a new batch of dough without any yeast, as indeed I know you actually are.” (1 Cor. 5:6-7 GNT)
Jesus said to Peter; Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. AND WHEN YOU HAVE TURNED BACK, STRENGTHEN YOUR BROTHERS.” (Luke 22:31-32 NIV) Unlike Paul’s method, Jesus prayed for the soul that is tempted. Peter was out of the fold for a period of time until Jesus invited him back. The aim is the same. God handed Job over to Satan too and he came out better than gold. Paul’s word in 1 Corinthians 5:5 was not for destruction of the soul but of the flesh. Our pride must be totally burnt out so we do not glory in self.
Satan is the whip that sends us back to light? What an irony! Yes, the Prodigal Son experienced this too. Many of us may be going through the same experience because they stubbornly refused to leave sin alone or be separated from the sin that almost destroyed them before they met with Jesus. Disobedience sends us back to Satan for discipline!!! Do not be a victim. Stop sinning.
THE WORD: “....Some people have not listened to their conscience and have made a ruin of their faith. Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have punished by handing them over to the power of Satan; this will teach them to stop their blasphemy.” (1 Tim. 1:19b-20 GNT)
