Asking questions is a fundamental aspect of learning. The Word of God presents so many challenges in the world we live in. The Word and the world are light and darkness. To please God or to please man! Sometimes it appears as if the Word contradicts itself and this could lead to confusion - ask questions.
Asking questions encourages critical thinking and helps to identify gaps in knowledge. It encourages active participation in the learning process. And it leads to exploration and discovery. It can open new avenues of thought, prompting the learner to investigate topics more deeply and from different perspectives.
Bible scholars say there are 3,300 questions in the Bible. It could be more. The first of which was; “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’? (Gen.3.1.NIV)
Jesus was said to have asked 307 questions depending on the Bible version and one of which was, "Who do people say that I am?" (Mark 8:27)
They (disciples) replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” (vs. 28)
Jesus then threw another question at them. This time, He wasn't looking for what others say but what those who have been with Him and close to Him, know/say about Him!
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.”
(Mark.8.29.NIV). This was revealed in Peter's spirit not by flesh and blood.
In the same way, we should ask the Holy Spirit (not arrogantly like in Mat.12:38-42; Rom.9:19-20), questions on things we do not understand and He will guide us to the truth. The answer may not come immediately, but wait expectantly and He will enlighten you.
We need divine revelation from the source of our faith. Not what the pastors say, not what our parents say, not what we read in the different books but a personalised touch which takes each of us to a place of deep revelation. No one can take such experience away from you.
Asking questions is part of diligently seeking Him (Heb. 11:6). So who is Jesus to you?
WORD: "For this is what the high and exalted One says— he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite."
