ARE YOU GOING TO SLEEP OR DIE? - Evangelism Tract

It is funny how we are not afraid to go to sleep but afraid to die. Some people pay lots of money to Doctors to be able to sleep yet the same people are afraid to die. Some, who cannot afford to pay, pray to sleep but not to die. The longest time a man has gone without sleep is 18 days, 21 hours 40 minutes (the longest period during a rocking chair marathon – National Sleep Research Project. Though the record holder reported hallucinations, paranoia, blurred vision, slurred speech, memory and concentration lapses) thereafter, whether he liked it or not, he had to yield to sleep.

This means that none of us can go without sleep and at a point in time, no matter how hard we try, we have no choice but to sleep.

Some people love sleep so much that the Bible refers to this group of people as SLUGGARDS. (Pro. 6:9)

Death on the other hand sounds really terrible and terrifying. So what is the difference between sleep and death?

The process is the same. Your eyes lids close and the rest is left for your MAKER. (Ps. 4:8 When I lie down, I go to sleep in peace; you alone, O LORD, keep me perfectly safe.)

Yet the difference is that SLEEP holds hope but DEATH has no hope. IN THE REAL SENSE, WHEN WE GO TO SLEEP, WE SLEEP IN FAITH!

THE GOODNEWS:

Christians do not taste death. They sleep and wake up in the loving arms of their Saviour. We are afraid of death because we have no HOPE.

When we tell ourselves that we are going to sleep, we have the hope of waking up to families and friends and to continue life as planned. But with death however, it seems all hope is lost. Whereas, if we look at the process of both critically, no one has control over either one.

We might be holding an executive meeting which our life depended on; and fall asleep. We fall asleep in the most dangerous situations like: driving, in examination halls etc. Likewise, death sometimes comes at involuntary times and places.

Believers in Jesus Christ do not taste death and this is why they are not afraid to die. See, I am giving you the revelation of a secret: we will not all come to the sleep of death, but we will all be changed

In a second, in the shutting of an eye, at the sound of the last horn: for at that sound the dead will come again, free for ever from the power of death, and we will be changed.” (1 Cor. 15:51-52)

“For this reason he says, Be awake, you who are sleeping, and come up from among the dead, and Christ will be your light.” (Eph 5:14)

If you are a believer and you are afraid of death, it is time to review your stand and relationship with God. Death is for those who have no right standing with God. Take care then how you are living, not as unwise, but as wise”. (Eph 5:15)

Do you want to sleep or die? The choice is yours: John 3:16 (For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.)

Accept Jesus Christ today and you have eternal life.
