Oppression defined: “This is what the king who will reign over you will claim as his rights: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. Your male and female servants and the best of your cattle and donkeys he will take for his own use. He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves."
(1 Sam..8.11-17.NIV)Oppression is the unjust exercise of power or authority, often involving cruelty and hardship. It is being treated as LESS HUMAN.
It is prevalent than we care to admit. Worse is the oppressed oppressing others. It is not peculiar to those in authority alone, it is in everyone of us. We all carry the spirit of Oppression in our blood. We enjoy this power play which God totally hates.
Oppression is giving your Help stale food and you consume a steaming hot delicious meal. It is clothing him/her in rags while you dress to kill. Oppression is paying your workers inadequate wages or delayed their wages. Exploitation!
The antidote of oppression is this: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
(Rom.13.9-10.NIV)
"Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God." (Prov.14.31.NIV)
Oppression is such a serious crime that part of Jesus Christ mission is to set the oppressed free (Luke 4:18).
Stay away from oppressing people so as not to attract God's wrath.
WORD: "Wash yourselves and be clean! Get your sins out of my sight. Give up your evil ways. Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows."
(Isa.1.16-17.NLT)
