REMEMBER THE LORD THY GOD - DEvotional

Remember the Lord thy God is an advice and a warning. An advice in the sense that all things come from God. Without God, we are nothing and can do nothing. A warning because to forget God leads to self destruction. A river that forgets its source will definitely dry off.

Remember the Lord thy God is spattered all over the Books of the Bible because God knows that once we are comfortable, we will become self-assured, self-reliant and forget Him, the source of our everything, hence, this is a constant reminder. "Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down,  and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. (Deut.8.12-14.NIV)

It is for this reason that God commanded that bitter herbs be added to meals during the Passover celebrations (Exo. 12:8). To remind the Israelites of their sufferings in Egypt and how God, by His strong hand, brought them out of slavery. The same thing applies to us all. We didn't get to be saved by our own power. We didn't come out of the miry clay without sufferings. And through His mercy and compassion, He rescues us from our enemies.
"You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today." (Deut.8.17-18.NIV)

What happens when we do not remember God?
"If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed." (Deut.8.19.NIV)

Thanks be to God who has left some thorns in our flesh to keep our focus on Him. More so, that there is no other to deliver us.
