What makes God angry?
"There are six things the Lord hates— no, seven things he detests:
-haughty eyes,
-a lying tongue,
-hands that kill the innocent,
-a heart that plots evil,
-feet that race to do wrong,
-a false witness who pours out lies,
-a person who sows discord in a family."
(Pro.6.16-19.NLT)
"The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness,"
(Rom.1.18.NIV)
How devastating is God’s anger?
"Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning." (Psa.30.5.NLT)
God's anger, though momentarily, the effect may last a life time. He was angry, and sent the flood that wiped out everything on the surface of the earth except Noah and his family (Gen. 7:17). The Israelites rebelled against Him and forty days turned to forty years. Because of pride, Rachel was barren till all the other women had their children (Gen. 30:22) "Fire goes before him and consumes his foes on every side." (Psa.97.3.NIV)
According to Romans 1, sinners go in one of three directions. They suppress the truth about God, they exchange the truth for a lie, and they worship created things rather than the Creator. How does God reveal His anger when sinners do these things?
God gives them up.
"Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another." (Rom.1.24.NIV)
God's anger reveals His Holiness and righteousness. He will not compromise. To obey Him is better than His wrath.
WORD: "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them." (John.3.36.NIV)
