Manipulation is a family of oppression that rides on the weaknesses of the victim. On the surface, manipulators appear to have the victims best interest at heart until it dawn on the victim that he/she has been in slave's chains without appearing to be a slave. Manipulation is the act of presenting lies as truth wrapped in fake love and dependency. It is all about gaining control of the victims mind. They are persuasive and manipulative. One of their characteristics is they constantly direct conversations towards their demands. They are unrelenting.
At the root of manipulation is lying.
-The serpent lied to Eve (Gen. 3:1-5)
-Jacob manipulated his brother and father (Gen. 25-27)
-Laban manipulated Jacob, as the best thing that happened to him, for almost 21 years (Gen. 29-31)
-Samson fell twice in the hands of his wives (Judg. 14 & 16)
-Manipulation is the major tool of false prophets.
No wonder the Bereans had to double-checked Paul before accepting his message (Acts 17:11)
Manipulators are everywhere, that friend, husband, wife, daddy, mother, pastor, colleague, neighbour, family members.
How do you identify manipulators?
Their identication comes from your thoughts. Each encounter and your submission leaves you unhappy, empty and a determination that you will not allow it next time. But the script plays out every time same way, same pattern.
When you try to resist, they increase their persuasive acts and where that fail, they turn deadly and violent. Stand your ground, the storm will soon pass but be on guard not to fall back into the same routine again. Put on the whole armour. Draw strength from the Word of God. "Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves." (Mat.10.16.NKJV) Jacob planned his escape from Laban and God was with him.
Be assured that God will never be on the side of deceit unless he repents.
