AT WHAT PRICE? AND IS IT WORTH IT?
At what price do you maintain your pride and stubbornness? What are you willing to pay for your rebellion especially when it competes with God?
Everyone has to some degree, some element of power over other people even if it is our children, employees, co-workers, spouse, etc. Some of us are power addicts that will do anything to remain in power. What do we use the power for? Mainly to oppress. To rape the innocent. To deny justice. To murder. To steal. To pretend to be the savior whereas they are the devil. The best/worse part is they believe that God does not see their secret deeds. They say, “The Lord does not see; the God of Jacob takes no notice.” (Psa.94.7.NIV). They become arrogant and disdainful. But at what price? "The wicked conceive evil; they are pregnant with trouble and give birth to lies. They dig a deep pit to trap others, then fall into it themselves. The trouble they make for others backfires on them. The violence they plan falls on their own heads." (Psa.7.14-16.NLT)
Pharaoh wielded power over the descendants of Jacob in Egypt until they cried to God. Pharaoh saw himself as god who has power to do and undo. In his facade he forgot God. He didn't live to tell the story.
Nebuchadnezzar spent seven years as a beast in the forest for his pride until he was humbled (Daniel 4)
Herod was so high handed that he killed James the brother of John. He imprisoned Peter. He placed himself in the position of God. He was publicly eaten by worms and he died (Acts 12).
This same fate awaits all who corrupt themselves with power packed in pride. And their names no one remember anymore (Psa. 34:16). They also end up in eternal hell fire. Is it worth it?
Be humble, think of others as better than you (Phil. 2:3), be kind and considerate, love as much as your heart can take. Do not rub shoulders with God; you are the servant not the master.
WORD: “Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron." (Psa.107.15-16.NIV)
