April 15th, 2025BETRAYAL WITH A KISS.
A kiss on the cheek or an embrace speaks of friendship, familiarity, close associate or connection, a position of trust and or a disciple. A stranger does not rush to kiss or embrace.
To be betrayed with a kiss is a deceptive act. Otherwise, the kiss itself is supposed to be an expression of friendship and respect. Therefore, it is only those who are close associates that can stab you in the back. Hence it is written: "a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’
(Mat.10.36.NIV)
Those who intended to arrest Jesus were unable to identify him with certainty so, they paid Judas, one of the twelve disciples. "Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.” Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed him.
(Mat.26.48-49.NIV) While this act was on display, Jesus addressed Judas as friend (Mat. 26:50)
It is worthy of note that a sign of deep respect, honour and brotherly love, intimate expression of love and respect was used to betray the God of love.
"If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were rising against me, I could hide. But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship at the house of God, as we walked about among the worshipers." (Psa.55.12-14.NIV)
Job also lamented saying: "All my intimate friends detest me; those I love have turned against me.
(Job.19.19.NIV)
The fact is, nobody knows you better than members of your household, a close ally, a confidant, a childhood friend. They can re-write your story. This may be why Jesus advised; “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me." (Mat.10.37.NIV)
Psychological, when you shift your love to Christ Jesus, He becomes your all in all and the best confidant. The knowledge of who you are will automatically diminish among your folks. It is a case of what you don't know doesn't hurt you.
