What are the signs that you are a people pleaser?
-You are more consume about what people will say.
-You prioritise others needs and desires over yours!
-You desire to be accepted, to belong rather than have a clear identity.
When people-pleasing replaces God's-pleasing, fear of failure is at the root. It is often linked to low self-esteem, anxiety, and fear of rejection leading to behaviours like over-agreeableness and difficulty setting boundaries.
Are you in this prison confinement?
"Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ." (Gal.1.10.NIV)
There you have it. Your value or worth can never be appreciated until you live to please God through pleasing yourself. We all feel good when we do what is right not eye service. Allow others to ASK for your valuable assistance because they know your worth rather than envisage their needs because you desire their acceptance. It is a disfavour to yourself.
TRUE the scriptures say:
Love one another even as I have loved you (Jn. 13:34). Love your neighbor as yourself (Mk 12:31). Do unto others what you would have them do to you (Mat. 7:12)
There is nothing in these scriptures that suggests you should pretend to be what you are not! Nothing suggests you should become a dumpster for your family, friends, church members, in-laws, and more. You will know because deep down, you are miserably unhappy.
Paul, who by human assessment, should be junior to Peter, rebuked him for his act of hypocrisy (Gal. 2:11-14), people-pleasing. Saul feared the judgement of men more than the wrath of God, leading him to make decisions that pleased the people (1 Sam. 15:24-33)
People pleasing clouds your judgement and as a result, you get hurt more often. That is not love.
WORD: "Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free." (Eph.6.7-8.NIV)
