PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.
April 19th, 2025THE FIG TREE (Mark 11:12-14)
"......Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, BECAUSE IT WAS NOT THE SEASON FOR FIGS. Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it."
(Mark.11.12-14.NIV)
The FIG TREE is a sign of times. “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near." (Mat.24.32.NIV)
The FIG TREE is one of the valuable products of the land, and it symbolises prosperity and abundance (Deut. 8:8). It also symbolises peace. "Everyone will sit under their own vine and under their own fig tree, and no one will make them afraid, for the Lord Almighty has spoken." (Micah.4.4.NIV)
Why will Jesus curse such a tree?
Because it was not the season for figs (Mark 11:13). In that instance, the FIG TREE REPRESENTED DECEIT making someone to accept as true or valid what is false or invalid. It is about appearance, performance, make believe, empty shells, the outside is washed but the inside is full of dirt. Many churches are out there proclaiming Jesus Christ but denying the power thereof. "having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people." (2 Tim.3.5.NIV) So also are self proclaim 'Born Again' Christians. God is not mocked.
The FIG TREE also took on the role of leading when it should follow the norm. "He noticed a fig tree in full leaf a little way off, so he went over to see if he could find any figs. But there were only leaves because it was too early in the season for fruit." (Mark.11.13.NLT) We also, often try to lead God instead of Follow God. Of course, we always land in the ditch. It is usually a case of the blind leading the blind. Those who live by deceit, pretence and in disobedience are cursed (Deut. 28:15-68), hence Jesus cursed the fig tree and it withered.
Those who has ears.....
WORD: “so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." (Isa.55.11.NIV)
