HINDRANCES TO PRAYER.
One major obstacle to prayer or unanswered prayer is PRIDE. There is the obvious pride and the not so obvious (subtle) pride. The obvious prideful prayer is like that of the Pharisees: ‘I thank you, God, that I am not like other people—cheaters, sinners, adulterers. I’m certainly not like that tax collector! I fast twice a week, and I give you a tenth of my income.’ (Luk.18.11-12.NLT) The subtle prideful prayer is rational, defensive, justifiable, convincing and demanding in the presence of the Almighty God.
There is no room for God to evaluate your request cause you have already reviewed your case. Be assured that you are praying to a 'Home made god'. A god that fits into your desire or a god of your imagination.
The scripture says that God sees all that we do in secret (Matthew 6:4), He knows our inner motives (the unspoken). He listens to our prayers NOT ONLY FROM WHAT WE SAY BUT ALSO FROM WHAT IS UNSAID. The real danger is you may not even realise that pride crepes into your prayer. We need to nail pride to the cross - strip it off from every fiber of our being.
The second major hindrance to prayer is UNFORGIVENESS. Unforgiveness is an act of disobedience. When you find it near impossible to forgive, you are DEFIANT, standing against God's authority. God specifically told us that forgiveness is reciprocal (if you can’t give it; you can't receive it) and if you have received it, it is mandatory you give it. None, who has received Jesus' forgiveness can withhold it from any other person.
Matthew 6:12 says 'forgive us as we forgive!' We are also encouraged to let go that 'vengeance is the Lord’s, He will repay (Rom. 12:20). Anything contrary to this amounts to lack of trust. And if you do not trust the God you pray to, He cannot be the Most High God. There is also the instruction that says 'do unto others as you want them to do unto you (Mat. 7:12). What do you expect from God when you resist His commands? Time to loosen up.
THE WORD: "Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit."
