PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.May 29th, 2025
KNOWING THE MASTER'S WILL AND NOT DO IT - (KNOWLEDGE VS OBEDIENCE)
Grace is purely a gift that cannot be earned by any one of us. No works can earn grace because all our works are like fifthy rags, we are unclean before a Holy God. "We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind." (Isa.64.6.NLT). So Jesus came and through Him, Grace swallowed our impurity for His purity.
"For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins." (Rom.3.23-24.NLT).
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." (John.3.16.NLT)
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE, WHO HAVE TASTED THIS UNMERITED FAVOUR, FALL BACK INTO SIN?
When Jesus called Peter, Peter did not hesitate, rather he dropped everything and followed Him. That was unmerited favour. Like Peter, all those who confessed Jesus, have His Grace works for us. We did nothing to earn it - His love did it for us.
But after this majestic gesture, if we now fall back into sin, WE HAVE TO EARN HIS TRUST. “And a servant who knows what the master wants, but isn’t prepared and doesn’t carry out those instructions, will be severely punished." (Luk.12.47.NLT).
"A third time he asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Then feed my sheep" (John.21.17.NLT)
After this conversation, Jesus told Peter: (again) "Follow Me" (verse 19)
This fallen away ushers in God's silence so deafening that we feel totally lost and desperately long for His presence in our lives. It comes with confessions, commitment to repentance and promises never to go back into sin.
We may not work to earn grace; we have to work to earn His trust. How? Through our obedience to His instructions.
THE WORD: “Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up." (Jas.4.8-10.NIV)
