ENCOURAGING SIN TO GROW.
We live in a world where people mind their own business. We see what is wrong but look the other way to avoid confrontations or being mugged. This act emboldened the perpetrators. In schools, the system encourages bullying without repercussions. In the office, nobody dares to be the whistle blower. In the community, we talk in low tones. At home, we are either too busy to see or care or prefer the 'let the sleeping dog lie', and assume that somehow the child will grow out of his/her wayward, sinful nature.
1. We don't see the negative actions as sin. So, we conclude that "it is not hurting anyone". But sin hurts someone especially the sinner - disobedient child, the overlooked 'innocent' error of your colleagues, the pastor's high-handedness, the neighbour's excesses, all comes back to hurt someone.
2. Don't make a storm out of teacup. It is a small act, not a big deal, let it go, he is just a child. But it is not going anywhere rather it is emboldened. There will be more lies, more abuses until it drives the individual far away from light into deep darkness.
3. The sinner's convincing thoughts, the no one will find out fake shield. "For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open." (Luk.8.17.NIV). Exposing the sin early kills it's power or hold on you. Confess it to God or a trusted friend. It is the first step to freedom. We also rationalise to keep it wrapped up because it may destroy the family name - Hmmmm! A stitch in time; saves nine.
4. The blind denial syndrome - NOT AS BIG AS THE OTHER PEOPLE'S SIN! The sin formula is, sin in one, sin in all. One sin is ALL sin. Sin doesn't have measures. Sin is sin. "For the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws." (Jas.2.10.NLT)
5. God cannot forgive this sin! This conclusion is to perpetually chain the sinner to sin. A slave of sin with no hope of redemption. This is the chief deceiver at work. The truth is, ALL types of Sin have been atoned for by Jesus Christ. It takes only a few minutes confession to Him and asking for His forgiveness and the chain is broken.
6. Can't stop, can't help myself mentality makes the sinner sink deeper into sin. I don't have the willpower. Of course you don't have the willpower to stop but Jesus does. Surrender it all to Jesus.
THE WORD: “Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it." (Jas.4.17.NLT)
