June 4th, 2025IDOL WORSHIP WRAPPED IN EPHOD!
An ephod is a sacred, ornate vestment, typically worn by the High Priest. The ephod is not only a garment but also a symbol of priestly authority and a tool for divination. Divination because the ephod is associated with the breastplate of judgement, which contained the Urim and Thummim, tools used for seeking God's will.
In the Book of Judges 17 and 18 we read about Micah's idolatry presented as legitimate worship of God. "The man Micah had a shrine, and made an ephod and household idols; and he consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest. In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes. Now there was a young man from Bethlehem in Judah, of the family of Judah; he was a Levite, and was staying there........And Micah said to him, “Where do you come from?” So he said to him, “I am a Levite from Bethlehem in Judah, and I am on my way to find a place to stay.” Micah said to him, “Dwell with me, and be a father and a priest to me, and I will give you ten shekels of silver per year, a suit of clothes, and your sustenance.” So the Levite went in. (Jdg.17.5-10.NKJV)
When the tribe of Dan came to Micah's house, they saw his set up, they took the idols, the ephod and the Levite - priest with them on their way to settle in Laish. There they set up an elaborate temple for the idols while the priest performed and observed all the feasts as done in Shiloh. It was however, the worship of idols not God. This probably was why the tribe of Dan was missing in the 144,000 of Revelation 7.
Much like Micah and the tribe of Dan, there are many people and many churches that have the appearances of godliness but they are idol worshippers. They do everything authentic with all the right signatures of worshipers of the true God.
Some worship money, some worship the person, some water down the word of God to suit their motives and true identity and some worship angels.
Because Moses stayed longer than expected on Mount Sinai, the people made and worship the Gold Calf (Exo. 32). Because Shiloh was far from the tribe of Dan, they settled for Micah's idols with the ephod legitimacy.
What gold calf have you made for worship because God's promise is delayed? You cannot cut corners with God.
