PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.
June 15th, 2025WARFARE: MISSED OPPORTUNITY TO COMPLETE VICTORY.
Then he said, “Take the arrows,” and the king took them. Elisha told him, “Strike the ground.” He struck it three times and stopped. The man of God was angry with him and said, “You should have struck the ground five or six times; then you would have defeated Aram and completely destroyed it. But now you will defeat it only three times.” (2ki.13.18-19.NIV)
In any warfare, we understand that "our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Eph.6.12.NIV). The implication of this is that we need God's eye, strength, courage, persistence to stay and remain focused because we have little or no knowledge of the extent or depth of the war. We need God for total eradication not partial eradication of the enemy.
Most of us, like Joash the king of Israel (not Joash the king of Judah), we act in partial obedience either because we are tired of fighting the same war over and over again or for lack of faith, or our backs are not against the wall yet.
Joash had the opportunity to defeat their ever constant enemy, first, outside the battle field before the physical war but he was defensive NOT decisive and offensive. It is possible he didn't understand Elisha's prophetic message. But compare this to when David asked God, 'shall I pursue them?' (1 Sam. 30:8).
Many of us have been on the battle field for too long because we missed the opportunity to completely destroy the enemy for lack of zeal, commitment, and faith necessary for the Lord to fulfil His promise. Consequently, we unknowingly allow the enemy to escape only to return later.
The scriptures encourage us to pray without ceasing. To resist the devil - be on the offensive ensuring that that enemy will not attack again (at least not same battle). All these done while you are still on your knees - total obedience to God's instructions, holy anger, ready in and out of season, soak yourself in the Word, go the extra mile. No one should be allowed to take away your peace and joy.
THE WORD: "Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." (Eph.6.13.NIV)
