YOU CANNOT BE NEW AND OLD AT THE SAME TIME.
"This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!" (2 Cor.5.17.NLT)
The Law of Moses revealed SIN and how to overcome it by self discipline, self righteousness, self preservation, and always trying or struggling to avoid it but achieving nothing. It is like rising and then falling flat. Some people ended up in the monastery to avoid sin. Some wrote the Word on tablets, papers and paste them all over their surroundings as constant reminder of the dos and don'ts. The progress is slow and torturous but still doesn't please God. Do not lie, do not steal etc., we still fall short no matter how hard we try.
"For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, NO LONGER COUNTING PEOPLE ’s SINS AGAINST THEM. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation..............For God MADE CHRIST, who never sinned, to be THE OFFERING for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ." (2 Cor.5.19-21.NLT).
Now, there is a choice; either to remain in the old tradition or convert to the new way of achieving what the old couldn't. You cannot wear both at the same time. It only ends in disaster and regret. Hence, Jesus said, “Besides, who would patch old clothing with new cloth? For the new patch would shrink and rip away from the old cloth, leaving an even bigger tear than before. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the old skins would burst from the pressure, spilling the wine and ruining the skins. New wine is stored in new wineskins so that both are preserved.” (Mat.9.16-17.NLT)
The Law of Moses and Jesus' Gospel, the Good News, aim to achieve the same goal which is TO PLEASE GOD. While the Law is man-effort-centered to please God, the Gospel is God-helping-man to please God. Therefore, "He, Jesus, died for everyone so that those who receive his NEW life will no longer live for THEMSELVES. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.
(2 Cor.5.15.NLT)
It is either you are old or new. Pharisee or disciple. You cannot be both.
