July 6th, 2025ARE YOU A PEOPLE PLEASER?
A people pleaser sacrifices his or her happiness every time he/she dances to the expectations of others. It goes beyond the denial of happiness, it ruins life because it is impossible to please people. It is an insatiable path, always demanding more with a temporary/brief satisfaction but a life long regret. We have all been there - a victim of the expectations of others not what really matters to you.
Behind the facade of pleasing people is pride. And we know that pride goes before fall. You start drinking to please your friends. You tasted drugs to belong until it becomes addiction. You marry the wrong person because someone dares you cannot. You spend more than you earn on your looks just to be part of a group of people. You are afraid of what people will say about you and that becomes your driving force! You just desperately need your parents, friends, relatives, peers, colleagues, approval to feel that you belong.
Ask yourself; what is the price I am paying for this illusion? Is it worth it?
Herod Antipas respected John the Baptist but ordered his beheading to please the people because he bragged before them to give whatever the daughter of Herodias, the dancer, demanded for her performance. “I want the head of John the Baptist, right now, on a tray!” Then the king DEEPLY REGRETTED what he had said; BUT BECAUSE of the vows he had made in front OF HIS GUESTS, he couldn’t refuse her." (Mark.6.25-26.NLT). Herod's misery lived long after the ceremony because; "When Herod heard about Jesus, he said, “John, the man I beheaded, has come back from the dead.” (Mark.6.16.NLT)
Yours may not yet be as extreme as that of Herod but how do you feel after the party was over? Empty?
Paul wrote; "Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If PLEASING PEOPLE were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant." (Gal.1.10.NLT). Thus, you cannot please man and please God. You have a choice to make.
Always ask yourself this question whenever you are at a crossroad:- what will Jesus do?
THE WORD: “So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace."
