DON’T GIVE UP: NOT YET - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.
July 30th, 2025

DON'T GIVE UP: NOT YET.
This reminds me of the parable of the barren fig tree.
“A man planted a fig tree in his garden and came again and again to see if there was any fruit on it, but he was always disappointed. Finally, he said to his gardener, ‘I’ve waited three years, and there hasn’t been a single fig! Cut it down. It’s just taking up space in the garden.’ “The gardener answered, ‘Sir, give it one more chance. Leave it another year, and I’ll give it special attention and plenty of fertilizer. If we get figs next year, fine. If not, then you can cut it down." (Luk.13.6-9.NLT)

The parable speaks of PATIENCE, PERSEVERANCE, AND POTENTIALS. Giving something or someone a chance to improve and produce results before giving up. Isn't that what Jesus Christ is giving us? A second chance!

I have come to realise that there are different queues for different purposes. I am talking of the unseen queues like that of death, growth, sorrow, successes, bearing fruit etc. Think about it. We are all on these queues until it is our turn. You can decide to patiently wait or you may leave if you find the waiting unbearable. The question is where do you go if you left the queue? Nowhere really. You are just looking for a shortcut - jumping the queue. If you failed, you may return only to find that the queue has moved on without you - then, you become the difference. Don't be impatient.

The second point is, none of the queue is according to age. That is why we see a fourteen year old child pregnant and some have to wait till in their later years. We witness deaths daily in different age range. It is not about age, it is about when our Maker says YOU ARE NEXT. Hence the scriptures warn us not to compare, not to covert, not to envy, but to give Him thanks and praises in whatever situation we find ourselves. It is turn by turn. When it is your turn,  the Lord God will remember you and will not deny anyone. Don't give up.

We planted about six bags of yam and before you can say Jack, two have sprouted. For some reason, the others refused to even blink. Every time the gardener came around, we say, let's get rid of them and start all over but he was always encouraging. After more months passed, they all came alive.

Don't give up, don't despair. That child may be slow now, may be a handful now, death may come in when it is not expected, there is always sunshine after the clouds. We all deserve a second chance.

THE WORD: Tell the righteous it will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds."
(Isa.3.10.NIV)
