PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.
July 9th, 2025GOD'S HEDGE OF PROTECTION.
Hedged between two evils, David instantly took a decision that saved his life. Saul was at his heel and for lack of any hiding place in Israel, he ran to the enemy camp, to Achish the king of Gath. Gath was a city of the Philistines, the arch enemy of Israel.
David was recognised as the boy who killed Goliath. So, he feigned madness to save himself. "That day David fled from Saul and went to Achish king of Gath. But the servants of Achish said to him, “Isn’t this David, the king of the land? Isn’t he the one they sing about in their dances: “ ‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands’?” David took these words to heart and was very much afraid of Achish king of Gath." (1 Sam.21.10-12.NIV)
Herein lies the wisdom of God: same David who once used a single smooth stone to take down the most powerful of their warriors, now feigned madness to escape death. It worked because David was hedged in by God's protection. He was let go.
When the Israelites were between the devil and the Red Sea, we saw the protective hedge of God for He made a way of escape where there was no way.
Satan even accused God of His hedge around Job. “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land." (Job.1.10.NIV). We may not see this hedge, but it is always there around those who love and put their trust in God.
There is God’s hedge of thorns too and this is primarily to bring us back to our senses and to return us to our first love. This is when everywhere we turn leads to a dead end. "Therefore I will block her path with thornbushes; I will wall her in so that she cannot find her way. She will chase after her lovers but not catch them; she will look for them but not find them. Then she will say, ‘I will go back to my husband as at first, for then I was better off than now." (Hos.2.6-7.NIV)
The Psalmist wrote: "Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me." (Psa.138.7.NIV) that is God’s hedge of protection.
There is nothing on earth that can be more powerful than His hedge. No technology can overtake it. For he that dwells in the secret place of the Most High God.......
THE WORD: "no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the Lord." (Isa.54.17.NIV)
