PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.
July 8th, 2025PARTIAL OBEDIENCE IS DISOBEDIENCE.
David instructed his military officer, Joab, "Go, number Israel and Judah." Joab protested but went and did what he was told. So the king said to Joab and the army commanders with him, “Go throughout the tribes of Israel from Dan to Beersheba and enroll the fighting men, so that I may know how many there are.” But Joab replied to the king, “May the Lord your God multiply the troops a hundred times over, and may the eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the king want to do such a thing?” (2 Sam.24.2-3.NIV). 1., Joab never got the answer to his question.
God was angry with Israel His people, He moved David to take a census of the people. 2. David arrogated the power to himself when he said; "that I may know...." 3. But there was a condition to be executed after the counting. “When you take a census of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the Lord a ransom for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague will come on them when you number them." (Exo.30.12.NIV)(Num. 31:49-50). Every one counted must give half-shekel.
“Your servants have counted the soldiers under our command, and not one is missing. So we have brought as an offering to the Lord the gold articles each of us acquired—armlets, bracelets, signet rings, earrings and necklaces—to make atonement for ourselves before the Lord.” (Num.31.49-50.NIV)
When David took census, there was no ransom paid by the men that were counted. If David, moved by God to take census (or by Satan 2Chronicles 21:1), his action was partial obedience and probably why Joab asked the question. The ransom payment was to prevent plague but it wasn't paid. "So the Lord sent a plague on Israel from that morning until the end of the time designated, and seventy thousand of the people from Dan to Beersheba died." (2 Sam.24.15.NIV)
So, what happened? Either David didn't know of the condition of census or pride took him over. Eventually, the people paid the price of partial obedience because it was sin.
Partial obedience is a hindrance to prayer. Has God messaged you to do something and you partially obeyed? Maybe He laid on your mind to donate or bless someone with certain amount but you gave less? You probably just lost the blessings attached to it.
THE WORD: Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?" (Act.5.3.NIV)
