"I SOUGHT THE LORD, AND HE ANSWERED ME." - Devotional

 

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.

"I SOUGHT THE LORD, AND HE ANSWERED ME."
"I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from ALL my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of ALL his troubles."
(Psa.34.4-6.NIV.) This is the Psalm of David when he pretended madness before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed. This Psalm spoke of happy ending considering that he, David, was running away from Saul and nearly died in the hand of the Philistines.

What about the times he sought the Lord and He did not answer favourable as he requested? What did he do?

"David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and spent the nights lying in sackcloth on the ground. (2 Sam.12.16.NIV.) On the seventh day, the child died.
This wasn't the ending David prayed for, hoped for, when he fasted, ate nothing, wore the same torn clothe, laid all night on the ground, for seven days and seven nights. We prayed for our loved ones too, but God has the final say. Were you disappointed? Did you cursed, stopped praying, asked questions?

Moses prayed to see the promised land but God refused. "At that time I pleaded with the Lord: Let me go over and see the good land beyond the Jordan—that fine hill country and Lebanon.” But ........“That is enough,” the Lord said. “Do not speak to me anymore about this matter." (Deu.3.23-26.NIV)

Paul experienced the same refusal when he prayed three times to God to remove his thorns. "But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”(2 Cor.12.9.NIV)

Jesus in Gethsemane prayed; “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” (Mat.26.39.NIV)

In all the above prayers, they sought the Lord but He did not answer the way they expected. Some of us have passed through similar experiences - what did you do? What should we do?

In circumstances like these, we must ensure we do not sin. "In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing." (Job.1.22.NIV.) We should like David, "he got up from the ground. After he had washed, put on lotions and changed his clothes, he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped......(2 Sam.12.20.NIV.) Life goes on - Philippians 4:8-9

THE WORD: “I know that the Lord is great, that our Lord is greater than all gods. The Lord does whatever pleases him, in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depths."
(Psa.135.5-6.NIV)
