PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.
July 20th, 2025THE YEARS THE LOCUST HAVE EATEN.....
And to the man he said, “Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat, the ground is cursed because of you. All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it. It will grow thorns and thistles for you, though you will eat of its grains." (Gen.3.17-18.NLT) Labour in futility
Why? Because the man diverted his loyalty to other gods.
Whereas, if man had simply "Seek his (God’s) will in all you do, he will show you which path to take" (Prov.3.6.NLT), the hardship will be lessened and fruitful.
The result: Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.........For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (Mat.11.28-30.NLT).
Hence the restoration: The Lord says, “I will give you back what you lost to the swarming locusts, the hopping locusts, the stripping locusts, and the cutting locusts. It was I who sent this great destroying army against you. Once again you will have all the food you want, and you will praise the Lord your God, who does these miracles for you......" (Joel.2.25-26.NLT)
The years of the locust are years of hard labour with nothing to show for it. No satisfaction, no contentment, years of accumulating things we may never enjoy. It is like seeing clouds without rain. The sponge is large when you hold it; put it in water and squeeze it, it becomes small. If we, who are humans, did not spare the fruitless tree in the orchard but cut it down, how much more will human labour be without joy or satisfaction?
When Paul was Saul, he was zealous for God in his own way and in his own strength, had nothing in God's record but outer darkness. When he channeled his zeal through God after repentance and restoration, his labour became very fruitful.
There are years we labour but scatter - years of disobedience. There will be years we labour less but gather more, much more yield than expected because "my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." (Phil.4.19.NIV)
THE WORD: “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." (Mat.11.29.NIV)
