THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE ARK OF THE COVENANT Except.....
"Nothing was in the Ark except the two stone tablets that Moses had placed in it at Mount Sinai, where the Lord made a covenant with the people of Israel when they left the land of Egypt." (1 Kings.8.9.NLT).
The Ark of the Covenant represents the presence of God in the midst of His people. God instructed Moses, "Place inside the Ark the stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant, which I will give to you. Then put the atonement cover on top of the Ark. I will meet with you there and talk to you from above the atonement cover between the gold cherubim that hover over the Ark of the Covenant. From there I will give you my commands for the people of Israel." (Exo.25.21-22.NLT). So, the first item in the Ark was the stone of tablets upon which the ten commandments were written. The ten commandments is like the legal document representing the agreement between God and His people, Israel.
The next thing in the Ark of covenant was Aaron's rod that budded. "And the Lord said to Moses: “Place Aaron’s staff permanently before the Ark of the Covenant to serve as a warning to rebels. This should put an end to their complaints against me and prevent any further deaths.” (Num.17.10.NLT) The rod of Aaron that budded represents Divine authority, God's chosen leadership, priesthood, and
discipline for breaking the law.
Then, the manna which represents God's provision. Moses said to Aaron, “Get a jar and fill it with two quarts of manna. Then put it in a sacred place before the Lord to preserve it for all future generations.” (Exo.16.33.NLT)
THE JOURNEY OF THE ARK THROUGH TIME.
-The Ark of the Covenant was at Shiloh (1Sam. 4:4)
-The Ark was captured by the Philistines (1 Sam.4:11)
-The Ark was returned to Israel (1 Sam 6:10-12)
-The Ark remained in Kirjath Jearim a long time (1 Sam. 7:1-3)
-The Ark was settled in the house of Obed-Edom (2 Sam. 6:10)
-The Ark was moved to the City of David (2 Sam 6:12)
-Finally, it was moved to the Temple which Solomon built (1 Kings 8:6-9). By this time, only the two tablets of stone which Moses put there at Horeb remained. (To be contd)
THE WORD: “In that room were a gold incense altar and a wooden chest called the Ark of the Covenant, which was covered with gold on all sides. Inside the Ark were a gold jar containing manna, Aaron’s staff that sprouted leaves, and the stone tablets of the covenant." (Heb.9.4.NLT)
