UNEXPECTED ELEVATION!
The king asked, “Is there no one still alive from the house of Saul to whom I can show God’s kindness?” Ziba answered the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan; HE IS LAME IN BOTH FEET.” (2 Sam.9.3.NIV). From grass to grace; hopelessness to full restoration of his dignity and honour irrespective of his physical challenges - David remembered his oath to Jonathan. The covenant that kept him alive and by a twist of fate, took Jonathan's life.
Let me remind us of the covenant between Jonathan and David, "But if my father intends to harm you, may the Lord deal with Jonathan, be it ever so severely, if I do not let you know and send you away in peace. May the Lord be with you as he has been with my father............and DO NOT EVER CUT OFF YOUR KINDNESS FROM MY FAMILY —not even when the Lord has cut off every one of David’s enemies from the face of the earth.” (1Sam.20.13-15.NIV)
David asked, is there ANYONE left of the house of Saul that I may show kindness to? This question went beyond the pact between David and Jonathan but included the entire house of Saul.
One good deed, an exceptional deed remembered after Jonathan had long gone. “Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will RESTORE to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.” (2 Sam.9.7.NIV) Even the suggestion that Mephibosheth was crippled and probably worthless did not stand a chance.
Are you crippled by your past? Do you think all is lost? Are you grounded by betrayals and disappointments? God is about to restore all that you have lost. You are about to rise from that fall that crippled you (Ps. 20:8). You are not a hopeless situation.
Jonathan as if he knew he will never sit on the throne of his father Saul, made provision for his household to be treated as princes and princesses. Are you making peace pacts or evil pacts for your future generations? Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “This message you have given me from the Lord is good.” For the king was thinking, “At least there will be peace and security during my lifetime.”

THE WORD: “Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing."
